Afro Soundz Radio, an online streaming radio station started as a concept idea over 3 years ago. Our founder wanted to create a platform where lovers of African music can discover new music from the African continent and listen to a DJ curated playlist online, anywhere they were, and around the clock. At the time, Nigerian artist, Davido had two of his biggest singles, “FIA” and “Fall”, blowing up in the US market and was being played and enjoyed in clubs by the American audience. The problem was, Davido is one of several amazing talents that our rich continent has. And while “FIA” and “Fall” were both amazing songs, they were only two of thousands of songs that were produced, played and enjoyed on the continent in the year of their respective releases.

The question becomes, how do you get to hear those other beautiful songs? Who will introduce you to Yemi Alade, to Falz, Simi or to Nasty C? How will you fully enjoy the music when you hear Phyno rapping in his native Igbo language for the first time? Seeking the answers of these questions is what drove our founder to establish Afro Soundz Radio. I remember bringing home a CD in 2011 from Nigeria that had “Oliver Twist” by D’Banj and “Chop My Money” by P-Square on it and the smile on the face of my girlfriend when I explained the meaning of both songs and her playful banter that obviously those two will be my favorite on the whole CD. Just like myself in 2011, Afro Soundz Radio is your bias guide to music from the African continent. It is our goal to deliver songs that will make you move your feet. By digging deep into the archives with Fela and Lucky Dube to possibly become the breaking ground for more current sensations like Omah Lay and Rema, we strive to give you eargasms.

I am really excited about our radio station and I can attest to the amount of behind the scenes work we’ve put into delivering a station we are sure you will enjoy. I am also very proud of the team for their commitment to this concept. Everyone on this team has certainly earned their stripes, and praise, and I most certainly commend them for their loyalty. I know part of the reward for their labor is the excitement that comes with launch day.

So, it is with absolute pleasure that I get to invite you to join us as we launch a unique experience tailored for lovers of African music. Our platform will host more than just music as we hope to bring you intriguing interviews with artists and music insiders, as well as a weekly podcast designed with the Millennials in the Diaspora in mind. At the end of the day, our expectation is we get to share music we love with you , and more reasons why music originating from Africa is so beautiful and special.

Thank you
Sean Ibanibo
